Save Our Schools - S.O.S
Thank You
World Children & Youth Physical Education Academy – (C.Y.P.E.-Academy) wishes to express its deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to our only sponsor of the year 2025, who has chosen to remain anonymous.
Thanks to your generous support, our Academy was able to deliver vital humanitarian and educational aid to schools and sports clubs across Ukraine. This support included essential school supplies, learning materials, and sports equipment—items that, for many children and young people, represent their only opportunity to learn, to move, and to experience moments of normal childhood in the midst of war.
Your contribution also made it possible for us, together with our partners, to organize physical education days for Ukrainian children. These were not merely sports events. They were moments of safety, joy, healing, and hope—moments where children could laugh, play, and feel human again despite the trauma surrounding them. Without your support, none of this would have been possible.
Supporting schools and sports clubs in Ukraine is critically important. They are not just institutions or buildings; they are safe spaces for children and young people—places of recovery, growth, dignity, and hope for the future. Physical education offers strength, resilience, community, and a pathway to heal from the psychological and emotional wounds caused by war.
Your quiet yet decisive support reflects a truly compassionate heart, deep responsibility, and genuine care for the future of children and youth. Even though your name is not public, your impact lives on in every child who was given the chance to move, to learn, and to smile—even for a brief moment.
On behalf of our entire Academy and all our partners,
thank you for your trust, your humanity, and your courage to help when it matters most.
With profound respect and warm gratitude,

Happy World Teachers' Day – October 5th
The work of a teacher is one of the most important professions in the world. It’s not just about sharing knowledge—it’s about guiding the life paths of children and young people, building their future, and strengthening their sense of self. Teachers see each student as a whole human being—with their uniqueness, strengths, and challenges—and help them grow into who they are meant to be.
Teachers also nurture tolerance, empathy, and a sense of community. Now more than ever, the world needs education, acceptance, and peacebuilders—and that is exactly what teachers provide every day.
Today, I especially want to express my deep respect for the teachers of Ukraine.
Your work, carried out amid fear, hardship, and the harsh realities of war, is immeasurably valuable. You keep hope alive. You teach children and young people to believe in the future, even when uncertainty surrounds them. Every day, you are building a new tomorrow for Ukraine—a future that is stronger, brighter, and more humane.
From the bottom of my heart, I wish for peace to come to your country. And when that moment arrives—when darkness fades and good prevails--you, the teachers, will be the true heroes. You will be there to carry your students forward—not just academically, but emotionally and spiritually. This work requires the support of the whole community: teachers, families, coaches, activity leaders—all of us working together.
Together, by supporting one another, you can raise a generation that will carry Ukraine forward with strength and resilience.
Thank you to each and every one of you. I’ve had the great honor of visiting Ukraine, and I promise to stand by your side as long as I—and my projects—have the resources to do so.
Next week, I will send out Information Letter No. 4, and I truly hope to share good news—both about aid supplies and about my next visit to Ukraine.
Happy World Teachers’ Day!
With heartfelt respect,

SAVE OUR SCHOOLS – S.O.S. in UkraineThe SAVE OUR SCHOOLS – S.O.S. in Ukraine project was launched on April 18, 2025, to support Ukrainian schools and sports clubs. The main goal of the project is to build both mental and physical bridges to support schools and clubs amidst the ongoing war. This is done by establishing partnerships between schools and sports clubs from Europe, Japan, Canada, Australia, and the United States.
Did you know that many schools in Ukraine have been destroyed by the war?
In July 2023, the Ukrainian Ministry of Education reported that over 180 schools were completely destroyed and more than 1,000 schools were damaged. These acts have been committed by Russia – a member of the UN Security Council.
This letter serves as an S.O.S. appeal to all schools and sports clubs in Finland:
Please extend friendship and support to Ukrainian children and youth who wish to continue their education and hobbies – even under bombing and daily danger.
In many areas, students have been forced to switch to remote learning because their schools lack bomb shelters and going outdoors is extremely dangerous due to continuous attacks. Remote learning can be very isolating, which is why every friend – including you – can be a vital source of emotional support.
Children and youth in Ukraine have faced:
The purpose of this letter is to share contact information with schools and sports clubs interested in participating in concrete peace work by becoming sister schools or partner clubs with Ukrainian counterparts. Together, we can create joint projects, offer material support, and provide emotional encouragement. If sponsors become involved in the project, we will provide official banking details, ensuring that all financial support goes directly to the specific purpose chosen by the donor – for example, educational or sports equipment.
Initial target region: MykolaivThe first phase of the project focuses on the Mykolaiv region, which has suffered extensive destruction. The region’s water system collapsed after Russia blew up a local dam.
The aim is to support schools in Mykolaiv for the first two years, after which the project will expand to the Odesa region. The total project duration is expected to be at least 10 years.

Paralympic Herou Anna Hontar , Paralympic Gold swimmer.
ANNA HONTAR.
My name is Anna. I am from Ukraine. For many years, I have been engaged in professional sports among people with disabilities and have achieved certain accomplishments. But none of this would have been possible without the support of my family, coaches, and teachers. They were the ones who helped me choose my path and gave me the opportunity to believe in myself, to overcome all difficulties and challenges.
It so happened that at the age of five, I began swimming. Sport became an inseparable part of my life. It was not just sport, but a path that shaped me as a person.
First and foremost, sport gives children health and strength. Every training session is work on yourself—on your body and endurance, overcoming limitations. Thanks to this, we gain confidence in our own abilities. Another important quality that sports have developed in me is discipline. To achieve results, you must wake up early, follow a routine, and work even when you have no strength or desire. This quality helps not only in sports but also in studying and in everyday life. Sport also teaches us to fight and not give up. In sports, as in life, there are defeats, but each one makes us stronger and motivates us to move forward.
I would also like to mention the friends and team that children find through sports. Sport gives Ukrainian children the opportunity to communicate with like-minded peers, provides the support of coaches, and instills the belief that together, any difficulty can be overcome. And perhaps most valuable of all—sport gives a young athlete a dream and a goal. It opens before us the world of major competitions and victories, teaches us to strive for the top and never stop.
I also want to express my gratitude to Kherson Gymnasium No. 1, which became one of the most important parts of my life. It not only gives children knowledge in various subjects but also shapes personalities, instills values, and teaches skills necessary for future life. The teachers taught us to analyze, to think critically, to search for solutions, and to apply knowledge in practice. This, in turn, created the foundation for professional development and allowed me to continue my studies at university. It was in the gymnasium that we learned to communicate with peers, work in a team, find friends, overcome conflicts, and collaborate. We were taught what responsibility, honesty, patriotism, and mutual respect mean.
For many of my classmates, school opened the path to sports, creativity, and self-development, helping them to discover and realize their talents. In my case, teachers created the best conditions for combining education and sports.
School has a tremendous impact on the development of a child in Ukraine. It not only provides knowledge but also nurtures, helps shape character, and prepares children for adult life. Sports for children are a school of life that gives strength, resilience, self-confidence, and the opportunity to do what you love, helping you fully reveal your potential. School and sport are two inseparable wings of a child’s development in Ukraine. They are closely connected, as they ensure the harmonious development of personality—intellectual, physical, and spiritual—and influence the future of every child.
With respect,
Anna Hontar

With respect,
Anna Hontar

"SAVE OUR SCHOOLS – S.O.S in Ukraine" was launched 18.04.2025 to support schools and sports clubs in Ukraine. The primary goal of the project is to build bridges to support Ukrainian schools and sports clubs both mentally and physically by organizing partnerships with schools and sports clubs from Europe, Japan, Canada, Australia, and the United States.
Did you know that many Ukrainian schools have been devastated by the war? In July 2023, Ukraine's Ministry of Education reported that over 180 schools had been completely destroyed and more than 1,000 schools had been damaged. Russia, a member of the UN Security Council, is responsible for these actions.
Through this letter, we would like to send an S.O.S. request to all schools and sports clubs to share friendship and support with Ukrainian students who, despite the bombings, still wish to continue their studies. If schools do not have bomb shelters and it is dangerous to move in the area due to Russian military terrorism and war crimes, students will switch to remote learning. Remote learning can be very lonely, and we believe that you can be one of the friends who can support these children and youth mentally. They have experienced bullying and the worst physical threats, such as the destruction of school buildings by missiles and bombs, as well as the loss of lives and loved ones.
Project does not collect money but shares contact information for schools and sports clubs that want to support peace efforts for the benefit of Ukrainian schools and sports clubs. Sister schools and sports clubs can come up with joint projects with Ukrainian sister schools and sports clubs. If sponsors join the project, we will provide account details from Ukraine, where financial support will go directly to the donor's chosen cause, such as educational and sports equipment.
The first aid areas are located in the Mykolaiv region, where widespread destruction has occurred, and the water supply system has collapsed after Russia blew up the dam in the surrounding area.
The project aims to help schools and sports clubs in the Mykolaiv district during the first year. The project's duration is at least 10 years.
If you have friends who might be able to respond to our S.O.S. request, we hope to hear from you. You can reach us via WhatsApp at +358 45 125 8817 (please note that the mobile connection may be poor in Leshnikovo village, Bulgaria, where our office is located). The village also gained fame through Taina Liekari’s video of her walking around the world. You can also send an email to [email protected].

Press Release
Restoration Project of Mykolaiv Stadium Progresses – First Official Meeting Held on August 30, 2025
On Saturday, August 30, 2025, the first official meeting concerning the restoration of the city stadium in Mykolaiv was held. The meeting took place in Mykolaiv and marked the start of concrete efforts to return the stadium to active use for children's and youth's sports and physical activity.
Participants included Volodymyr Kilarskyi, President of the Mykolaiv athletics club GO FLAMO; Timo Virtanen, CEO of the World Children & Youth Physical Education Academy (C.Y.P.E. Academy); and Henry Björklid, an advisor to the academy.
The meeting addressed the missile strike carried out by the Russian army in 2022, which directly targeted the stadium. The attack caused extensive damage, especially to the running track, where a crater approximately five meters deep and fifteen meters wide was formed. The strike was not only an attack on Mykolaiv's infrastructure, but also a blow to the international sports community, as the stadium had hosted international competitions before the war.
The stadium holds great importance for children's and youth sports. While it is open for use by all Ukrainian athletes, its primary users are children and youth involved in athletics and football clubs, as well as approximately 20 schools in Mykolaiv – including schools for special needs students – that organize physical education classes at the stadium.
Currently, the football pitch has been restored to a condition that allows for youth and children's tournaments to be played on the grass field. However, the surrounding athletics facilities, such as the running track and event areas, still require significant repair.
During the meeting, responsibilities were delegated and potential funding sources for the restoration project were discussed. The City of Mykolaiv has expressed preliminary readiness to contribute 50% of the project funding, provided that the remaining 50% can be secured from sponsors or international reconstruction funds.
C.Y.P.E. Academy CEO Timo Virtanen expressed his gratitude to GO FLAMO President Volodymyr Kilarskyi for organizing an excellent and productive meeting. Both parties committed to moving forward toward concrete results.
This project represents a vital step in the reconstruction of Mykolaiv and in supporting children's well-being through sport.
