MYKOLAIV CENTRAL STADIUM NEED SPONSORS !
HELP MYKOLAIV STADIUM !!!
Press Release
Restoration Project of Mykolaiv Stadium Progresses – First Official Meeting Held on August 30, 2025
On Saturday, August 30, 2025, the first official meeting concerning the restoration of the city stadium in Mykolaiv was held. The meeting took place in Mykolaiv and marked the start of concrete efforts to return the stadium to active use for children's and youth's sports and physical activity.
Participants included Volodymyr Kilarskyi, President of the Mykolaiv athletics club GO FLAMO; Timo Virtanen, CEO of the World Children & Youth Physical Education Academy (C.Y.P.E. Academy); and Henry Björklid, an advisor to the academy.
The meeting addressed the missile strike carried out by the Russian army in 2022, which directly targeted the stadium. The attack caused extensive damage, especially to the running track, where a crater approximately five meters deep and fifteen meters wide was formed. The strike was not only an attack on Mykolaiv's infrastructure, but also a blow to the international sports community, as the stadium had hosted international competitions before the war.
The stadium holds great importance for children's and youth sports. While it is open for use by all Ukrainian athletes, its primary users are children and youth involved in athletics and football clubs, as well as approximately 20 schools in Mykolaiv – including schools for special needs students – that organize physical education classes at the stadium.
Currently, the football pitch has been restored to a condition that allows for youth and children's tournaments to be played on the grass field. However, the surrounding athletics facilities, such as the running track and event areas, still require significant repair.
During the meeting, responsibilities were delegated and potential funding sources for the restoration project were discussed. The City of Mykolaiv has expressed preliminary readiness to contribute 50% of the project funding, provided that the remaining 50% can be secured from sponsors or international reconstruction funds.
C.Y.P.E. Academy CEO Timo Virtanen expressed his gratitude to GO FLAMO President Volodymyr Kilarskyi for organizing an excellent and productive meeting. Both parties committed to moving forward toward concrete results.
This project represents a vital step in the reconstruction of Mykolaiv and in supporting children's well-being through sport.

We Are Seeking Funding for the Restoration of Mykolaiv Central Stadium Restoring a Symbol of Hope – For Children, Youth, and the Entire Community
When a sports field is not just a field – but a sanctuary, a source of strength, and a promise of tomorrow Mykolaiv Central Stadium
has been far more than just a sports venue.
It has been the sound of children laughing on crisp autumn mornings, young people chasing dreams down the track, coaches guiding with care at dusk, and citizens finding peace in movement – together.
Before the war, the stadium lived and breathed energy.
It was the beating heart of sport in southern Ukraine – hosting international events, school PE classes, training sessions for sports academies, and shared moments of movement for the city’s people.
But the brutality of war did not spare even playgrounds.
In 2022, a Russian missile struck the stadium directly, leaving a crater five meters deep in the middle of the running track.
This was more than an attack on infrastructure – it was a wound in the hearts of the children, youth, and athletes of Mykolaiv.
Our Goal: To Bring Life, Movement, and Hope Back
Today, part of the football field has been restored. Children are once again running, laughter returning to the air, light returning to their eyes.
But the athletics facilities – the tracks, throwing areas, and jumping zones – remain broken, quiet, abandoned.
Our goal is clear: To breathe life back into the entire stadium.
To return it to the purpose it was built for:
The First Step Has Been TakenOn August 30, 2025, the first official planning meeting was held in Mykolaiv.
Participants included:
There was full agreement: this project must move forward – but it needs you.
Funding and Partnership OpportunitiesThe City of Mykolaiv has committed to covering 50% of the project costs. The remaining funding must come from:
🔹 Private or public donors
🔹 Companies or foundations that believe in supporting youth through sports
🔹 Sports organizations ready to stand in solidarity with children suffering from war
🔹 International partners committed to rebuilding lives and protecting human rights through action
A detailed cost estimate by a local construction firm is available upon request.
Why This Matters – And Why NowThis is not just about fixing a stadium.
This is about a child’s right to run without fear.
It is about a young person’s chance to believe in a future.
It is about a city’s ability to remain strong and united.
It is a global message: Terror will not silence hope.
This project is a statement – that sport unites where violence divides, and that children deserve safety, movement, and dreams, no matter where they live.

- A fitness haven for the entire population of Mykolaiv, offering healing, strength, and a sense of belonging.
- And most importantly – a symbol that the international community stands with children in war, and believes in peace through sport.

History of Mykolaiv’s Central City Stadium (Tsentralnyi Stadion) Construction and Opening
The stadium was built between 1962 and 1965 on a former landfill site, without central government support—it was a local city initiative. It was designed by the Giprograd Institute under architect A.K. Marachynskyi and constructed by several local building companies such as SU‑11, SU‑621, Zelenstroy, and Mykolaivspecstroy. The total cost was approximately 680,000 rubles.
It officially opened on September 26, 1965, during Shipbuilder's Day. The inaugural match between MFC Mykolaiv (then known as Sudostroitel) and CSKA Moscow ended in a 0–0 draw, with an audience of 40,000 spectators. The stadium earned the nickname “Mykolaivski Luzhniki,” referencing Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.

Russian War Crimes 2022
In 2022, a Russian missile struck the international stadium in Mykolaiv, Ukraine — a place that belonged to the global sports family. This was not just an attack on a building, but on the spirit of peace, unity, and youth. Let’s come together to help rebuild Mykolaiv Stadium — to create a safe, high-quality training and competition venue for athletes from around the world. Let’s stand with Mykolaiv. Let’s stand for sport. |

Destruction in 2022On June 28, 2022, the stadium was heavily damaged by a direct Russian missile strike. A crater 15 meters wide and 5 meters deep was left in the running track in front of the main stand. Fortunately, no one was injured as the stadium was empty at the time.
Repairs and the Situation in 2024–2025Although some restoration work has begun, full reconstruction is still pending. As of late 2024, glass shards remain in parts of the stands, posing safety risks—especially for children. Some sports practices and games resumed, but infrastructure like the running track still awaits renovation.
In March 2025, preparations for the new season began: the old grass was removed, mowing was done, fungicides were applied, and nitrogen fertilizer was used to restore the pitch. However, the full restoration timeline remains unclear due to funding and structural concerns.
