​Dear Friend,
My name is Timo Virtanen, and I have spent my entire life teaching and inspiring young people – not just in sports, but in life itself. I have coached, mentored, and helped children and youth discover their strengths, believe in themselves, and rise above obstacles. My journey has been more than just coaching – it has been a path that has given me a deeper understanding of what true impact looks like.
This is not just a story about sports – it’s a story about dreams, hope, and the communities that are born when we give young people the tools to grow and develop. It’s a story of how sports and education can transform an entire society.
I’ve witnessed how sports change lives.
When I first coached my teams, I had no idea just how deeply it would affect me. Sports aren’t just about strengthening the body – they’re about strengthening the mind. For children and youth, sports are an important lesson in facing life’s challenges and overcoming fears, uncertainties, and barriers. I was there when the first hesitant steps became full of confidence. I was there when laughter filled the field, and I was there also when falls and setbacks taught valuable life lessons.
As a coach, I’ve seen that every child has their own unique gift.
Sometimes that gift isn’t the fastest runner or the best basketball shooter, but rather the most supportive teammate or the best encourager. Through sports and coaching, children and youth can discover their strengths and develop them. They also learn to work together, understanding that the power of community is far greater than the individual.
But as a coach and educator, I’ve also come to understand something else.
This work is not just about improving the lives of young people. It’s about improving society. It’s about improving the world.
Every young person who is given the chance to grow through sports and physical activity is not just developing their body – they’re developing their heart and mind. Sports teach respect, the importance of community, fair play, and self-discipline. These are skills that last a lifetime. They don’t just stay on the field; they become part of a young person’s character and their life.
This is not just about sports.
This is education that affects the future of society. It’s how we build values, how we learn to understand each other, and how we learn to live as honorable and responsible citizens. Youth sports aren’t just for youth – they’re for the entire community, and the entire world.
I have coached and mentored many young athletes, and I’ve seen them rise to be champions – but more importantly, I’ve seen them grow into great human beings. They have learned to be brave and determined, but also respectful and kind. And these lessons they carry forward into a world that desperately needs them.
This work is not just about the sports fields – it reaches everywhere.
Sports are the key to a better world.
This is a journey that cannot be done alone.

Welcome to the Anniversary 2025 Website of the World Children & Youth Physical Education Project
The World Children & Youth Physical Education project EVERYBODY IS IMPORTANT celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2025. The anniversary year will culminate in a major celebration on August 21, 2025, held in the city of Mykolaiv, Ukraine.
The theme of the day is “EVERYBODY IS IMPORTANT”. During the celebration, there will be a sports day for children and youth. We want to highlight the importance of physical activity and sports in the lives of children and young people. At the same time, we emphasize the importance of peace in the world.

The celebration is organized by: 
  • Athletics Club GO FLAMO
  • World Children & Youth Physical Education Academy (C.Y.P.E. Academy)​​​
During the event:
  • We will present greetings and messages of encouragement from around the world.
  • A photo exhibition will showcase the 30-year history of the project.
  • We will introduce the important project SAVE OUR SCHOOLS – S.O.S. in Ukraine.
  • ​Santa Claus from Finland will also be present giving gifts to children.
This project will run for at least 10 years. Its aim is to support schools and sports clubs in Ukraine.

The first participating organizations include:

  • ​Snihurivka Schools 1 and 3

We Are Looking for Friendship Schools and ClubsWe are seeking friendship schools and sports clubs from other countries that can support Ukrainian schools and clubs in various ways.
Support can be small or large:
  • A letter from one child to another can bring great joy.
  • ​A drawing or message can give hope to those living in the middle of war.
  • School supplies are essential for learning.
  • ​Aid organizations can also help in rebuilding damaged schools.

For example, in the Mykolaiv region, access to clean drinking water has become a serious problem since Russia destroyed the Kakhovka dam, which has affected agriculture and the lives of millions of people.
Sports Clubs Need Support
  • We are also looking for friendship sports clubs to support clubs in Ukraine.
  • ​Clubs can share experiences, coaching knowledge, and sports equipment.
  • Joint competitions, camps, and seminars can be organized.

This year, the Mykolaiv stadium turns 60, but it was heavily damaged in a Russian missile attack in 2022. The stadium is still in need of support and repairs.
Russia’s attacks show a disregard for the role of sports in the world. This is one reason why Russia is no longer allowed to participate in many international sports events.

​Statement on the Company Tmi Fair Play Paimen
The sole proprietorship Fair Play Paimen was established on November 27, 1998. Since its founding, the company has been a sponsor of the EVERYBODY IS IMPORTANT project. The project was active in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1998 to 1999, during which Fair Play Paimen delivered school and sports supplies to the project’s schools and sports clubs. The company also funded the operational activities of the project and acted as the publisher of its publications and books.
Fair Play Paimen is currently also involved in the SAVE OUR SCHOOLS – S.O.S. in Ukraine initiative, supporting the procurement of school and sports supplies and managing the transportation of aid materials, including to military zones.
The World Children & Youth Physical Education Academy – C.Y.P.E. Academy and Fair Play Paimen have signed a 10-year cooperation agreement covering the affordable procurement and safe delivery of aid supplies for the SAVE OUR SCHOOLS – S.O.S. project, including to military areas.

SAVE OUR SCHOOLS – S.O.S. in Ukraine
​Coordinator Timo Virtanen is responsible for the overall leadership and international coordination of the EVERYBODY IS IMPORTANT project.
This is a humanitarian and educational development initiative focused on supporting the well-being, education, and physical activity opportunities of children and youth in crisis areas. The project has operated in several conflict zones: Bosnia and Herzegovina (1998–1999), Afghanistan (2005–2020), and, beginning in 2025, Ukraine.
The project is carried out in close cooperation with various international organizations and military as well as civilian partners, including NATO and the United Nations. Notable examples include collaboration with NATO's SFOR forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1998–1999) and with ISAF forces in Afghanistan (2006–2012).
This cooperation has played a key role in ensuring effective aid distribution, a secure operational environment, and sustainable impact in supporting children and youth. The project's core mission is to offer hope, support, and tangible opportunities for a better future – even in the midst of war and crisis.

​What Is the EVERYBODY IS IMPORTANT Project and What Does It Do in Ukraine?
EVERYBODY IS IMPORTANT is an international physical education and social inclusion project that began in Finland in 1995. Its original aim was to prevent the social exclusion of children and young people in Finnish sports culture — with a particular focus on children and youth with disabilities, who were often left out of mainstream activities.

🔹 Background and International Expansion
  • 1998–1999: The project expanded to Bosnia and Herzegovina in cooperation with the United Nations (UN) and NATO/SFOR peacekeeping forces.
  • 2005: At the request of the UN, the project was launched in Afghanistan during the UN Year of Sport and Physical Education, supporting especially girls' education and physical activity.
  • During the Afghanistan project, three academies were founded:
    1. World Children & Youth Physical Education Academy (operational arm)
    2. World Heart Trainers Academy (for top-level coaches respecting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child)
    3. World Children & Youth Rights Academy (media and outreach division)

🔹 Activities in Ukraine 2025, to mark the project’s 30th anniversary,
       a new 10-year initiative was launched:
🎯 SAVE OUR SCHOOLS – S.O.S. in UkraineLaunched on April 18, 2025,
        this project aims to:
  • Support physical education and youth sports in war-affected areas
  • Provide schools and sports clubs with resources and motivation
  • Promote mental and physical well-being, community, and children's rights

Specific Actions in Ukraine:
  • First aid deliveries were made in May 2025 to:
    • GO FLAMO athletics club in Mykolaiv
    • Schools No. 1 and 3 in the Snihurivka area
  • On August 21, 2025 (project anniversary), a children’s sports day will be held with golden "FAIR PLAY" medals for every child participating
  • In September 2025, additional deliveries of school supplies and sports materials will follow

​Who is Timo Virtanen and what does he do in Ukraine?
